Observational studies – Blitz in HF – Italy

The Italian society for hospital-based cardiologists, AMNCO, has begun an observational study, Blitz in HF, to look at the quality of care for HF patients across Italy. They are looking at how different HF centres (hospitals) deliver HF care, whether they follow existing clinical guidelines, what the outcomes for patients and the costs to the health care system are. Their ultimate goal is to use this data to develop an accreditation system for HF centres, rewarding those who adhere to clinical guidelines and result in the best patient care, in the hope of encouraging all centres to ‘raise their game’ to improve the care they offer patients.
