The HFPN has published a new call to action endorsed by national patient organisations across Europe. It aims to raise awareness of the relationship between heart failure and mental health, and drive change for this issue at EU level.

The call to action is a response to the EU’s recently published approach to mental health, which did not mention supporting people with chronic diseases such as heart failure in their mental health. The call to action includes three key recommendations that the EU can take forward regarding early detection, capacity building and digital tools. This document is the first output of the HFPN’s new campaign, the European Heart Failure Mission.

Mental health conditions are common among people with heart failure – one in three experience depression, worsening their quality of life. The EU must take urgent action on mental health to improve the lives of the millions of citizens with heart failure.
