Pieter Martens is a clinical cardiologist and advanced heart failure specialist. Pieter Martens graduated medical school, internal medicine and cardiology at the University of Leuven In Belgium. During his medical training he performed multiple clinical rotations at the Mayo Clinic (USA) and Cleveland Clinic (USA) and participated in the 3th post graduate heart failure course (PCHF) organized by HFA and Zürich University. He combined his cardiology training with a PhD in clinical heart failure research under the guidance of Prof Dr. Wilfried Mullens at Ziekenhuis Oost Limburg Genk/Uhasselt. Pieter Martens is author >125 international peer reviewed articles including articles published in The New England Journal of Medicine, JACC, circulation and European Heart Journal. Pieter Martens has received multiple international and national grants for his research in the field of heart failure. During 2022-2023 Pieter Martens was a Fellow of the Belgian American Educational Foundation. After his cardiology training and PhD, he performed one year of post-doctoral research at the Cleveland Clinic and one year of clinical training as an Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology Fellow at the Cleveland Clinic. From 2021-2023 Pieter Martens performed an additional Master in Clinical Trials at Oxford University. From end of 2023 and onward Pieter Martens will work as an advanced heart failure specialist and clinical trials.
