With extensive background in cardiac medicine, Stephan Schueler holds particular expertise in heart failure surgery, especially mechanical assist devices. He is currently Surgical Director VAD/MCS program and a Consultant Cardiothoracic and Transplant Surgeon at Freeman Hospital in Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK. He is a former President of the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation and former president of the European Society for Cardiovascular and Endovascular Surgery. He has been involved in establishing guidelines in the treatment of patients with advanced heart failure using durable mechanical devices. He has extensively published in this field, been involved in several journals and monographs and been a strong advocate for patients with advanced heart failure for more than a decade.
