A Scots-Italian who has been living and working in France since 1995, Steven is a qualified secondary school teacher, adult educator and online course developer. He received a diagnosis of chronic heart failure in June 2010 and has had a CRT-D device implanted. Steven is a founding member and president of Association Vie Et Coeur (AVEC), a patient-led heart failure support and advocacy association. He holds national certificates in therapeutic patient education (TPE) as a practitioner, program coordinator and e-educator. He also serves as a patient expert, regularly co-facilitating TPE workshops at the local hospital and, more recently, intervening in the university programs for medical and nursing students. He has a keen interest in digital health solutions and their integration into a blended healthcare solution and education. His collaborations, which are at the local, national and international levels, include medical establishments, associations, medical societies and numerous industry advisory boards. They include: patient committee member of the Investigation Network Initiative-Cardiovascular and Renal Clinical Trialists (INI-CRCT), steering group member of the Heart Failure Policy Network, and member of and contributor to the Global Heart Hub (GHH) Heart Failure Council.
